In the long list of things that House of Mufflers & Brakes can fix, add air conditioning to the list. There is nothing worse than climbing into your rolling oven and finding out that your a/c is behaving more like a hair dryer than a refrigerator. Unfortunately, just like your house, there rarely is an easy fix. If you’re lucky, you’ve got a bad belt on the compressor or maybe a blown fuse. But the more likely explanations are either a bad part or a leak of refrigerant somewhere in the system.

Your air conditioning system is made up of four main parts: the compressor (which pressurizes the refrigerant through the system), the condenser (which takes in hot air, cools it down and turns it into a liquid), the evaporator (which holds super-cool liquid in its tubes, then air is blown through it that eventually goes through your vents) and the receiver-drier (which catches the super-cool liquid before it can make it back to your compressor). How all this stuff works together to make you cool is a topic for Mr. Wizard, but just know that if any of them fail, you’ve got trouble.

One of the more common issues is that throughout your system are tubes and hoses that can develop tiny, little holes. Out of those tiny holes, your refrigerant can leak out, causing your system to lose pressure and make your a/c less efficient. We can find those leaks by injecting a special dye into the system. As the dye works itself through all the tubing, we look for where it’s coming out by wearing special glasses. It’s all very “CSI” like.
