WINTERIZING YOUR VEHICLE FOR A COLD OMAHA WINTER
Winter is fast approaching in Omaha. Just as you winterize your sprinkler or winterize your wardrobe, you should also winterize your car. Without taking care of a few important things, you cannot expect your car to run at its best during the winter months.
Here are a few items you’ll want to ask your Omaha auto service professional before the frigid temperatures hit:
Consider snow tires. Omaha winters can be snowy. Even as snow melts, the cold bringse and dangerous road conditions. These tires are made specifically for ice and snow and will provide additional traction and safety.
Check tire pressure. If you do not have snow tires, it’s important to ensure your tires are properly inflated to increase traction and prevent against pothole damage.
Get an oil change – the right oil change. If you are approaching an oil change, take your car in before the weather becomes too cold. The oil your Omaha auto service professional uses should have the right viscosity, or thickness, for your vehicle at this time of year. Oil thickens as it gets colder, and if it’s too thick it won’t properly lubricate your engine.
Check the battery. Battery capacity is reduced by the cold weather. Your Omaha mechanic should check over the battery cables for cracks and breaks. The terminals should fit snugly with no loose connections.
Check belts and hoses. If you request a full vehicle check from our auto mechanic, they should check all the belts and hoses to ensure they can withstand the winter temperatures. Cold temperatures can cause more wear and tear on belts and hoses.
These are several of the important items that should be checked when winterizing your vehicle, but certainly not all. At House of Mufflers & Brakes, our Omaha auto service professionals are well-aware of how to winterize a vehicle and can help with any questions or concerns.
